Naysayer. I know I have been one at times, and I know I’ve definitely have had them in my life. What is one to do when there is this constant buzzing in their ear, and it’s not from the bees buzzing around?
Ok, what exactly is a “naysayer?” Well, Webster says, “A person who habitually expresses negative or pessimistic views.” I know we all have these kinds of folks in our lives.
However, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that their intentions are not to always spread a whole bunch of negativity all over our lives. Perhaps some of them genuinely care about our well being and just want the best for use?
Here are a few things I heard throughout my years: “You shouldn’t marry – or stay married to – that man because he is going to hurt you.” “You are going to ruin your children if you home school them.” “Don’t become a Jesus freak (ha, I like that one).” “If you foster/adopt a child, you are going to take away love from your own children.” Oh, there are many more, but I think you get the point.
Of all the examples I gave, I’m glad to say I did not end up following one. I followed where I believed God was leading me. I was walking by faith and not by sight pretty much all of the way.
Do you have that constant well-being-person whispering doubts in your life? Here are a few verses that had helped me along the way:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”. Proverbs 3:5-6
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And you do not be conformed to this world, but to transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:1-2
“We ought to obey God rather than men.” Act. 5:29
“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Phil. 1:6
“For I know the thoughts I think towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not evil.” Jeremiah 29:11
Now, if you are a naysayer, I have a few words for you. STOP IT! If there is a situation in your life where you are seeing someone you love heading down what you think to be the wrong road, I think the above verses still apply. Commit it unto the Lord and pray without ceasing. We do not have the ability to change anyone, believe me, I have tried. The only thing our nagging and constant negativity will do is drive them away. I believe nothing is wasted when it comes to the mighty power of God to be able to transform a life.
Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ……….
